Michael Bennett surrenders to authorities

Eagles defensive end Michael Bennett surrendered to authorities in Houston on Monday, via multiple reports. Bennett’s bond was set at $10,000 for a felony count of injury to the elderly.

A Houston grand jury indicted Bennett on a felony charge of injury of the elderly, stemming from an incident at last year’s Super Bowl. The charge carries a penalty of up to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

But when he was still available late in the second round, the Saints started working the phones, and dealt a 2018 second-round pick to the Niners to claim the 67th overall pick and the third pick in the third round. That netted Kamara, whose explosive burst helped overcome a slow start. Kamara was named the 2017 offensive rookie of the year. — Nine picks after Kamara, the Saints used their own third-rounder to pick the poor man’s Foster, Florida weakside linebacker Alex Anzalone.

A day after the Oakland Raiders released Crabtree on March 15, the Ravens agreed to a three-year, $21 million contract with the veteran, giving quarterback Joe Flacco a much-needed proven possession receiver. Neither the Crabtree addition nor the signing of John Brown ended the Ravens’ pursuit of wide receivers.

They met with restricted free agents Cameron Meredith and Willie Snead, and they explored signing Meredith, who ultimately agreed to a deal with the New Orleans Saints. They hosted veteran Eric Decker, worked out Michael Floyd, bid on Allen Hurns and made an effort to keep Michael Campanaro, who ultimately signed with the Tennessee Titans.

Ten Things I Think I Think 1. I think the 2018 regular-season schedule is not done—it always comes down to a tight close the week before the draft—but my guess is the league would like to have it released late this week. My money’s on Thursday. Part of the reason for that is the NFL doesn’t want the schedule release to conflict with the draft next week, so they’ll work hard to get it done this week and maximize the spotlight on the schedule.dolphins_094

This Josh Allen stat seems like a huge red flag

Josh Allen has divided the NFL community when it comes to his draft stock. Some view the former Wyoming quarterback as a potential franchise quarterback who has the physical tools to make him worth a No. 1 overall pick. Others see a player with significant weaknesses that could hinder his ability to succeed at the highest level.

If there’s one major weakness for Allen, it’s his completion percentage. He completed just 56 percent of his passes as a sophomore and only 56.3 percent as a junior. Some could try to justify the numbers by saying it was the product of playing in poor weather and with sub-standard teammates. But a stat shared by Rotoworld’s Evan Silva seems like a huge red flag.

Not only did Allen struggle to complete passes at Wyoming, but he had the same issues as a junior college quarterback at Reedley in Central California.

Something else returned, as well.

“People don’t understand that beyond his kindness and gentle nature that Danny is one of the most competitive people I’ve ever be around,” said Doering, who along with Wuerffel formed one of the most prolific QB-WR combos in Gators history. “It’s incredible the shape he’s gotten himself into. He’s changed his diet completely and is really conscious about what he’s putting into his body and how he’s treating himself.”

Gordon is slated to earn $790,000 in 2018 under the deal and is not allowed to negotiate a contract with any other team.

Gordon, 27, was reinstated last year after serving an indefinite suspension since 2014 for repeated violations of the NFL’s substance abuse policy. He was activated for the last five games of the regular season, catching 18 passes for 335 yards and a touchdown in that time.

There’s a strong chance Washington’s Vita Vea, the consensus top defensive tackle prospect, will be gone before then. But the Cowboys are bound to have their pick of Alabama’s Da’Ron Payne, Florida’s Taven Bryan and Michigan’s Maurice Hurst, all highly rated players who fit their scheme with Irving. Payne has the best pro-readiness and pedigree of those three.dolphins_126

Giants owner “always admired” Packers QB succession plan

The widespread assumption around the league is that the Browns will pick a quarterback first overall.

But because no one’s quite clear what the Giants will do, it’s hard to get a clean read on the rest of the draft or the order quarterbacks might come off the board. While they have a quarterback they trust for the moment in Eli Manning, the opportunity to add an heir might be something they can’t pass up.

But where does something like that come from?DAVIE – There was a stretch of about nine plays bridging the third and fourth quarters last, when Miami Dolphins defensive tackle Phillips destroyed the guard across from him.Giordano was named the 19th captain Flames history on September 20, as he succeeded Jarome Iginla, who was traded late the 2012. Sooner or later we need to add through free agency to complete the team.

Spoiler alert: Tons of and won.Any indication on this website that a person has been arrested or booked is not proof of guilt or that any crime has been committed. One of those losses was to the 49ers, 45, at Candlestick Park October.

Taven Bryan, DT, Florida: Bryan might not be at the top of the Lions’ wish list, but depending on how the board falls, he could conceivably be the best defensive line option when the team is on the clock. The 6-foot-4, 291-pounder is a top-tier athlete for his position, and with good coaching, his potential could be transformed into impressive production within a year or two.

Will Hernandez, G, UTEP: If Wynn is the nimble guard option, Hernandez is the power house. A 348-pound behemoth, he managed to earn first-team All-American honors despite playing for a winless team as a senior. He’s highly durable, plus he played on the left side in college, making him a good fit for Detroit’s roster hole. He would provide an immediate boost to the power run game. And don’t let the size fool you into thinking he can only operate effectively in a phone booth. Hernandez moves better than expected, which was validated by his combine metrics.dolphins_004

Cardinals sign Bene Benwikere

The Cardinals announced they have signed cornerback Bene Benwikere to a one-year deal.

Benwikere, 26, has played 39 career games with 14 starts. he spent three seasons with Carolina after it made him a fifth-round pick and was with Dallas last season.

The Cowboys obtained him in a trade with Cincinnati at the end of the preseason, and he played 12 games last season.

When it comes to unrestricted free agents, the Sharks have enough to ice a full shift – three forwards, two defensemen, and one goalie.2-ranked female fighter the world by the ISKA and SMA rating systems. If only running backs coach Duce Staley had gone with the hot hand when Mathews, who missed a third straight game with a concussion, was clearly outperforming. The debate rage about the quarterbacks for what looks like at least another offseason, but there’s no doubt Davidson and need to do something about the offensive line.

Sunday’s first game, which had a 1:10 p.m., scheduled start time was called off at 11 a.m., then the second game was postponed at 1 p.m.

Both were called off at the same time because Yankees player rep David Robertson had to negotiate a makeup date with Major League Baseball, which didn’t want the game on June 4 before day one of its draft is scheduled for that day. Until these makeup games were scheduled, only three West Coast games had been scheduled for June 4.

Robertson’s concession was agreeing to a split-doubleheader, which the Tigers insisted on because they want two home gates.

Nonstop rain on Saturday continued Sunday morning, and according to local forecasts, the chances are very good that it won’t stop until around sunrise Monday morning. According to,  there’s a 95 to 100 percent chance of rain in downtown Detroit from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., then it slightly drops from 80-to-85 percent until midnight.

This weekend was the Yankees’ only scheduled trip to Detroit this season. seahawks_050

Aldon Smith reportedly transferred from jail to substance-abuse facility

Aldon Smith is reportedly being transferred to an inpatient substance-abuse facility.

According to, a San Francisco Superior Court judge ordered Smith to enter the facility and to stay there for 30 days, pending a status hearing next month.

The Bears were wise to keep Vic Fangio as defensive coordinator and retain starting cornerbacks Prince Amukamara and Kyle Fuller. But at the second level of their base 3-4, they could use a dynamic, versatile playmaker who can thrive inside or outside. Fangio, formerly of San Francisco, can get his Patrick Willis/NaVorro Bowman-type here.

Bottom line: The Giants’ 2018 schedule is tough. But before New York can think about navigating through that slate and competing for a spot in the NFC playoffs, it needs to focus internally. As they transition under their new head coach, the Giants’ new-look defense will be tested often by teams like the Cowboys, Eagles, Saints, Falcons, Texans and 49ers.

Stanton is playing down his first regular-season games against the Miami Marlins, which he’s insisting “are like any other game.”

Believe him or not, he’s doing the same regarding his supposed rift with a certain Yankees legend who now is a part-owner and CEO of the Marlins.

It is very interesting though that Derek Jeter will be in New York this week, but staying away from Yankee Stadium because he feels it’ll be “an awkward situation.”

Awkward because Jeter is a legendary Yankee who now runs the Marlins?

Or awkward because of how he reportedly tried forcing Stanton to waive his no-trade clause last winter to accept a trade to San Francisco or St. Louis before the Yankees helped continue the Marlins’ offseason fire sale by taking on most of the $218 million that was remaining on a $325-million contract that is the largest in baseball history?seahawks_101

Browns, Ravens pursuing Allen Hurns

Wide receiver Allen Hurns didn’t lack for immediate interest after being released by the Jaguars this week and he went to Dallas to visit with the Cowboys on Wednesday.

Hurns was initially slated to visit with the Jets, but changed his plans in light of the snowstorm that hit the area. The Jets and Cowboys reportedly have company in pursuit of Hurns’ signature, however.

After a disappointing defeat at the hands of Bobby Roode Toronto last November, Dillinger admitted that he not have what it takes.Hewent on to conclude his career with the Oilers, and the Minnesota Vikings. We are grateful for all of his contributions to the organization and wish him the best.Over the years, the guys I’ve been around that were able to do both were above average-to- elite players. Are they just trying to mess with him?

Sanchez said in an Instagram post he was “blind-sided” by news of the positive test “and I want to say unequivocally that I have never cheated or attempted to gain a competitive advantage by using a banned performance enhancing substance.”

The former No. 5 overall pick by the Jets has a career 37-35 record as a starter with 15,219 passing yards and as many touchdowns (86) as interceptions (86).

Sanchez hasn’t played in a game since 2016, when he made two starts and a relief appearance for the Cowboys.

The Dolphins have expressed interest in Baker Mayfield and Josh Allen, but unless they move up to the top four overall picks, they probably will not get a QB. Instead, they can stay in state and get a high-upside, in-the-box safety to eventually replace TJ McDonald.

After drafting a quarterback first overall and missing out on Saquon Barkley, the Browns could look to move down and stockpile early-round picks. Jackson is the type of long, athletic ball hawk that John Dorsey likes.seahawks_160

Players’ unions weigh in on potential legalized sports gambling nationwide

The players’ unions from North America’s major professional sports leagues on Thursday issued an unprecedented joint statement regarding the potential for betting on their respective games being legalized across the United States.

The statement — released on the NFLPA’s Twitter feed — appeared to be a preemptive move by the unions ahead of the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling by late June on a case under which New Jersey, through a suit filed by then-Gov. Chris Christie, is seeking to strike down the federal law that prevents states, besides Nevada, from allowing gambling on sports.

Earlier this year, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said (via Legal Sports Report) that his league’s stance on wagering remained much the same as it has been historically: The NFL isn’t embracing sports betting nor is it actively opposing it.

“The time has come to address not just who profits from sports gambling, but also the costs,” their statement read, in part. “Our unions have been discussing the potential impact of legalized gambling on players’ privacy and publicity rights, the integrity of our games and the volatility of our businesses.”

King was released by the Raiders because new head coach Jon Gruden reportedly had issues with the veteran’s personality. However, King said he never even met Gruden. Six days after he was cut, King agreed to a three-year deal with the Broncos.

There’s no way any other invitation Reid gets can be viewed as anything other than window-dressing. If there ever is another visit, expect the same result, the same line of questions, the same process and the same tactics.

But in reality, don’t expect another visit. The NFL can cross Reid off its list. It can no longer be said, “Nobody even brought him in to talk.” The same routine was pulled on Colin Kaepernick last offseason; if nothing else, the teases with the Seahawks and Ravens, as clumsy as they were, saved other teams the trouble of going through those motions this offseason.seahawks_004

Aldon Smith Showed Up to Police Station with 0.40 BAC, Taken into Custody

Former NFL linebacker Aldon Smith reportedly showed up to the San Francisco Sheriff’s Department with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.40 and was arrested Friday for a violation of his parole.

Evan Sernoffsky of the San Francisco Chronicle reported the news ahead of Smith’s court date Wednesday.

A BAC of 0.40 is five times the legal driving limit in the state of California and can cause severe internal damage. It is considered above the level of impairment from surgical anesthesia.

Solder is a little old (turns 30 in April) to become the highest-paid offensive lineman in the league, but left tackles with solid production and experience don’t hit the open market often. New York had to pounce in order to nail down the edge, especially after it lost out on Norwell inside. Now the Giants’ attention can fall on left guard and center through the next waves of free agency and the draft.

San Francisco falls short of an “A” because, even with the team-friendly deal for its former Seahawks tormenter, Sherman is entering his age-30 season and coming off a ruptured Achilles. Beyond the risk, if Sherman is healthy, he should pay off as a heady cover man and a much-needed leader for a promising young defense.

“Well it’s too tough to keep this secret any longer,” Kelly wrote. “We thought we had a plan until I found out a few days before Christmas, that God had a different one. I enjoyed getting to surprise Matthew on Christmas morning with some news he was for sure not expecting. We are excited to announce that we will be adding another baby to the family!”

Kelly also noted the baby is due during training camp.

The couple, who met while both were attending the University of Georgia, were married in April 2015.

Offense has been the Dodgers’ chief problem one week in, as they got shut out three times in their first nine games and failed to get a home run from their outfielders (and just a .542 OPS). As a result, Clayton Kershaw opened the year 0-2 in three starts despite allowing just four runs — three of them on solo homers hit by left-handed hitters. — Kahrlla_kings_004
